Neurospicy Career Coaching: FAQs

If you have a question that’s not covered here, get in touch and ask away.

What is coaching?

Coaching is a process of coach and coachee partnering to maximise the client’s potential. While acknowledging that the leader is the expert in themselves, the coach works with them to widen their perspective, facilitating new discovery about themselves and the challenges they’re facing. I have more information about coaching on my about page, or if you prefer to watch, I’ve created a YouTube video on it as well.

Do I need to be diagnosed with a neurodivergence?

Not at all, I will work with you regardless of whether you are diagnosed or not. You don’t even have to tell me what form of neurodivergence you have or think you might have if you don’t want to. My coaching is tailored to you the individual, not based on assumptions around your specific flavour of neurodivergence.

How can you coach all neurodivergences and not specialise in one?

This isn’t a question anyone has actually asked me, but I think it’s important to talk about why I coach any and all neurodivergence. Firstly it’s because neurodivergences regularly overlap, so even if I was the foremost ADHD expert in the world, some of the advice for managing ADHD might conflict with the client’s undiagnosed autism or dyslexia and so over-specialising can actually be unhelpful.

Secondly, everyone’s neurodivergence presents differently, so I’m not about telling someone what to do. Instead I work with my clients to find strategies that work with their brain, trying things on for size until something fits, because that way we will find something that works for them the best.

Do I have to be a leader already?

Not at all, we have to learn the skills at some point and it can be useful to get a head start. I also have worked with people who are unsure whether they want to become a leader. We work together to explore this question and they make the right decision for them.

Do you cover day to day ADHD/autism/other management?

Yes, but it’s not my primary focus. I mainly work in the careers, business and leadership space and if your day to day neurodivergence management gets in the way then we will absolutely tackle this. However, if your primary concern is the day to day management then I might be able to find you a better fit than me.

Is there a minimum qualification I need to meet for coaching?

There’s no minimum qualification. I prefer someone to have a few years of work experience behind them as I don’t specialise in finding first jobs. However, I’m happy to have a chat about people’s unique situation and see if we’re a good fit for each other.

Do you coach impostor syndrome?

Absolutely, it’s one of the topics that comes up most regularly in my coaching and I have some great techniques we can try out to find which one works best for you.
